New York City’s dance/pop/electronic artist Calvert recently dropped his debut EP, called This Beautiful Life, Vol. 1.

Calvert describes the EP, “A true labor of love. A lifelong goal finally achieved. I’m extremely proud of my debut EP and I hope it makes you feel.”

Produced by Jonathan Mendelsohn and orchestrated by Jamey Ray, two of the songs from the EP became music videos, directed by Brad Hammer Productions.

Although this is Calvert’s debut EP, he’s far from a novice. His first single, “Kiss The Air,” was optioned twice by television’s So You Think You Can Dance. In addition, Calvert sang backup vocals for Mariah Carey, Harry Connick Jr., Patti Labelle, Shoshana Bean, and Gloria Estefan. He’s also a member of Broadway Inspirational Voices, a Grammy-nominated gospel choir.

As a member of The Broadway Boys, Calvert toured internationally, and was part of the group’s Top Ten album on iTunes. His film credits include P.S. I Love You and The Last Five Years.

Encompassing five-tracks, the EP starts off with “Please With A Cherry,” an infectious pop tune flavored with delicious dance dynamics. A tight, potent rhythm underscores the pulsing synths, as Calvert’s captivating voice, with just a touch of alluring nasality, delivers the sensuous plea of the lyrics.

“Heartbeat” opens on elegant shimmering synths flowing into a dazzling dance-lite melody rife with vibrant vocals and radiant vocal harmonies, infusing the tune with gleaming depth. The undulating flow of the harmonics reveals iridescent accents atop a compelling rhythm.

“Move On” travels on bubbling synths riding an austere piano. The melody oozes dark colors, imbuing the harmonics with creamy electro-pop savors. Calvert’s falsetto injects the lyrics with lingering yearning hues of gripping urgency. “Wanna Be” features a tasty quiescent intro flowing into sparkling colors riding a potent groove coated up high by a streaming violin.

The title track opens on emerging flavors, followed by a contagious syncopated pulse supporting surging luminous colors, as Calvert’s marvelously rich tenor soars overhead. Soft breakdowns accentuate the shimmering impetus of dance energy streaming through the orchestral colors.

This Beautiful Life, Vol. 1 dishes up vivacious sonic momentum combined with rolling swelling streams of pop relish and Calvert’s yummy, affluent voice.
